If you live in DC you may have walked passed a few of these interesting boxes and wondered what they are. Well, never fear I have your answer. These are the old fire and police emergency call boxes. They were first installed in DC in the late 1800s. These were used up until the 911 system was established in the mid 1970s. From 2000 to 2009 there was a city-wide project to take these abandoned call boxes and turn them into art. Pretty cool, huh? This one above can be found on the corner of 10th and F street NW.
